Modular Architecture Minimize

IIS 7.0 provides administrators with an unprecedented degree of control over their Web server. IIS 7.0 is designed to enable the IT Professional to customize exactly which features are installed and running on the Web server. IIS is now factored into more than 40 feature modules that can be independently installed on the server, dramatically reducing the potential attack surface and lowering the footprint requirements of the server.

Windows Server 2008 Provides some major improvements over Windows Server 2003 Including Improvements to:

  • HTTP administration and configuration
  • Process management
  • Performance monitoring

The Windows Server 2008 Architecture provides a new request-processing architecture that includes:

  • A new service, Windows Process Activation Service (WAS), which enables sites to use protocols other than HTTP and HTTPS
  • A Web server engine that can be customized by adding or removing modules
  • A new approach to processing requests, integrating the request-processing pipelines from IIS and ASP.NET
